The 45th Street Rod Nationals South was held May 3-5, 2019, at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. I drove my 1937 Packard to Knoxville on Thursday, May 2, went to the headquarters hotel, picked up the registration packet, washed the … Continue reading
Hello to all Packard Street Rod Association Members,
It has been interesting and exciting to see the email back and forth
between PSRA members. Some news has been good and some not so good.
First, Jack Cassada told us that he has completed his ’39 coupe and will
be coming to Knoxville. I was looking forward to seeing his new ride.
Then he sends out the bad news that he had an offer he couldn’t (and
didn’t) refuse. So Jack has been nominated for “show and tell” in
Knoxville. Bring some pictures of the ’39, tell us about the build, and
explain what is meant by “an offer I can’t refuse.” Also, Jack, send me
a picture of the left over parts and prices and I will post that on the
website.
The Street Rod Nationals South in Knoxville, Tennessee, is just around
the corner on May 3-5, 2019, at Chilhowee Park & Expo Center. All PSRA
members and Packard enthusiasts are invited to gather at the picnic
shelter on the hill at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2019. Check the map in
your information package for location of the picnic shelters. Drive
your Packard and let’s get some group photos. Also, I saw in the March
issue of Streetscene that Scott’s Hotrods ‘N Customs is having open
house on Thursday from 1-5, with Bar-B-Q and ice cream. That would be
May 2, 2019 and the address is 2212 Mohawk Ave. It’s just a few miles
from the headquarters hotel. So I plan to drive to Knoxville on
Thursday morning, pick up the registration package at the headquarters
hotel, wash the bugs off the Packard and head over to Scott’s for the
afternoon. I attended the open house at LOKAR two years ago and it was
a lot of fun. Hope to see you guys at Scott’s Thursday afternoon.
I saw that Stuart and Gail Corenblum are driving their 1939 sedan from
Miami, Florida. Loren Aschbrenner will be there from Cookeville,
Tennessee. And Harold Gilreath will be there in his complete (except
upholstery) 1937 sedan. Have a safe trip.
I also heard from some who cannot attend the show in Knoxville. So for
all y’all, let’s think about the NSRA 50th annual Street Rod Nationals
to be held August 1-4, 2019, at the Kentucky Exposition Center in
Louisville, Kentucky. Can someone who has attended a past Nationals,
find us a location where we can all gather on Friday afternoon, see each
others cars, tell stories, and make some pictures? I would really like
to see a group photo of our association in Streetscene.
“Ask the Man who Owns one” was used in Packard ads for many years. The
summer 2018 issue of Packards International magazine on the cover had a
1934 Packard Twelve Victoria by Dietrich with the caption “Ask the Man
Who Sold One.” On page 1 we learn that the Packard sold at auction for
$3,745,000. Yes, that’s nearly four million dollars. So if Jack
Cassada is in Knoxville, I want to “Ask the Man who Sold One.” But I
still like our slogan better.
“Ask the Man who Drives One.”

My brother and I attended the NSRA 48th Annual Street Rod Nationals, in Louisville, KY, August 3-6, 2017. I drove my 1937 Packard convertible from Chapel Hill, NC, 624 miles and Henry drove his 1932 Buick Victoria from Wilson, NC, … Continue reading
